Position Summary
Next Up and Next Up Action Fund mobilizes diverse young people to move Oregon forward through issue advocacy, youth leadership development, and civic engagement. We envision an Oregon where young people boldly lead the state forward, our democracy is inclusive and accessible, and our communities are strong and resilient. We're Next Up, and we want you to join us.
Going into the 2024 elections, we are once again focused on turning out young people (18-29) in key races like Statewide House and Senate, City Councils, County Commissions, and District Attorney races. With goals to increase voter turnout and support endorsed candidates, our Election Organizers will be instrumental in helping reach thousands of young people across Oregon to turn out the vote through virtual phone calls and some in-person canvassing.
Election Organizers will be in charge of reaching out to young Oregonians ages 18-29 to assist in making vote plans while gauging support in coordination with progressive candidates endorsed by Next Up Action Fund. You'll learn about electoral organizing, phone banking, and door-to-door canvassing all while making a huge impact.

Compensation
$21/hour, up to 12 hours a week. This is a temporary, part-time position.
Duration
This position is helping get out the vote before the May 2024 primary election. This is a temporary, part-time, hourly position with weekday, evening, and weekend work required. The position runs between Wednesday, April 15th - Tuesday, May 21st, 2024.
Location
Portland, Oregon with a hybrid schedule (both virtual and in-person work required). Phone banks are all virtual with the potential for one in-person canvas a week. A cell phone and laptop will be needed to phone bank and join meetings.
SCHEDULE
The weekly schedule includes 3 virtual phone banks, and the potential for 1 in-person canvass a week along with a 1:1 check-in with staff.
Monday - Thursday from 5:30 - 8:30 pm
Saturdays from 10 am - 2 pm (potential)
covid-19
We are requiring all team members to be vaccinated for COVID-19 unless a team member has requested and received a health/disability or religious accommodation. For in-person meetings - applicants must follow all in-person covid protocols outlined by the organization (such as masking, and regular covid-19 testing).

responsibilities
Phone Banking
Support progressive candidates endorsed by Next Up Action Fund.
Connect with thousands of Oregon voters ages 18 - 29
Call voters with assigned technology to turn out the vote.
Canvassing door-to-door
Engaging strangers in conversation by going door to door.
Travel to assigned geographic territory and work in all weather conditions
Achieve the daily contact and engagement goals as assigned
Maintain inventory of canvassing materials and ensure ample supply is requested and received in a timely manner
Accurately record and report canvassing activities, results, and information using assigned technology
qualifications
Commitment to Next Up and Next Up Action Fund's mission, with an appreciation for the role of electoral justice in social change and movement building.
You are interested in expanding your analysis and knowledge about the role that racial inequity plays in our society, and are committed to building and/or deepening your commitment to racial justice work.
Strong time management, problem-solving, organizational skills and follow-through on projects to meet goals.
Excellent communication skills and ability to engage many audiences -- specifically racially, ethnically, and socioeconomically diverse communities.
Access to reliable transportation, a laptop, cell phone/phone, and wifi.

Experience working on a campaign or doing direct voter contact and outreach (ie canvassing, phone banking, text banking)
